For the Love of Dance
Our annual For the Love of Dance showcase is an informal performance for our dance families. It is an opportunity for classes to share what they have been working on so far this year, before we gear up in preparation for our Spring Performances.
WHO WILL BE PERFORMING?
All of our regular technique classes will be performing. That means everyone from Creative Movement 1, to Hip Hop 3, to Ballet 6! The only classes not performing will be our Adult Classes and Pre-Pointe. Students are working hard in class learning their choreography, so if you know that your dancer will be unable to participate in this event, please let us know ASAP so that instructors have time to adjust accordingly!
WHERE IS IT?
Our event will be at the Houghton Middle School gym. You should plan to enter through Entrance 1 (glass entrance).
WHAT IS THE SCHEDULE?
This event is Open House style, so families are welcome to stay and watch the whole event, or just come for your scheduled time slot and leave right after. Dancers should arrive at least 15 minutes before their scheduled time slot to make sure they are checked in with their instructors and have time to warm up in order to dance safely.
The event is on Sunday, February 9, and the class time slots are as follows:
2:00pm - Creative Movement 1 (Wed), Creative Movement 1 (Sat), Pre-Ballet/Modern, Ballet 1, Ballet 2, Ballet 3, Ballet 4, Ballet 5, Ballet 6
2:35pm - Creative Movement 2 (Tues), Creative Movement 2 (Sat), Pre-Jazz/Hip Hop, Jazz 1, Jazz 2, Jazz 3, Jazz 4, Jazz 5, Jazz 6
3:10pm - Fundamentals (Th), Fundamentals (Sat), Pre-Tap/Rhythm, Tap 1, Tap 2, Tap 3, Tap 4
3:45pm - Mini Hoppers (Tues), Mini Hoppers (Sat), Hip Hop 1, Hip Hop 2, Hip Hop 3, Hip Hop 4, Hop Hop 5, Hip Hop 6
4:20pm - Greenstone Company, Agate Company, Copper Company, Modern 1, Modern 2, Modern 3, Modern 4, Modern 5, Modern 6
While you are welcome to leave after your dancer is done performing, we do ask that you wait for the transitions between each time slot to minimize distractions while classes are performing.
WHAT SHOULD DANCERS WEAR?
No costumes necessary (those will be for our Spring Performances)! Basically, just follow the usual dress code for class, which can be found in our Policies and Procedures. We do request that dancers wear solid colors rather than patterns or larger logos, just for a little bit of uniformity, but unless your class normally has a specific color you are supposed to wear, any colors are fine.
CAN I TAKE PHOTOS OR VIDEO?
Absolutely! However, please NO flash photography as it can be dangerous for our dancers.
APPAREL AND BAKE SALE FUNDRAISER
Our Studio Companies will be having a bake sale at the event to raise money to help offset the costs of travel to dance conventions and competitions this season. Make sure to buy some tasty treats to help them out! In addition to selling some of our SSOD gear and apparel, we will also be taking pre-orders for a limited edition fundraiser t-shirt with all profits going to our Studio Companies as well.
