Performance
Arrival & Check-In:
Please be ON TIME and arrive one hour and thirty minutes prior to the recital time.
Dancers and parents, you must check-in with staff at the table in the Rosza lobby upon arrival. We ask that only ONE parent or guardian bring their dancer backstage to avoid congestion. There will be signs posted guiding dancers to their designated dressing areas (See Dressing Areas below for assignments).
Dancers should be seated in the audience prior to 6pm on Saturday and 2pm on Sunday ready for “Notes” and warm-up lead by Miss Sylvia.
During Performances:
The performance will be streamed live for chaperones and dancers to watch backstage. It is recommended that parents of younger dancers and/or chaperones provide quiet, non-messy activities to keep dancers occupied. Please avoid items like markers and elaborate crafts with excessive pieces that can be difficult to clean up. Some suggestions include bringing a blanket for dancers to sit on, devices and headphones, sticker books, coloring books and crayons, card games, and reading books.
Security & Check-Out:
Following warm-ups, chaperones will group younger classes together, account for all dancers in their respective class and bring dancers backstage to their designated dressing areas. Dancer’s are to remain backstage with chaperones until the end of the performance, after the final bow. For your child’s safety, we do not allow recital attendees to visit backstage during the show or intermission.
Parents of dancers age 9 and under, you are REQUIRED to check-out dancers with our chaperones. As the performance is open to the public and to ensure the safety of our SSOD dancers at the Rozsa, please send ONE parent or guardian backstage for check-out to minimize congestion. Please remind dancers beforehand that they are not allowed to leave their chaperone until a parent checks them out.
Dressing Areas:
Please follow signs to the designated dressing areas. Level 1 Dancers: Band Room (upstairs), Level 2 and 3 Dancers: Choral Room, Level 4 and up Dancers: Main Dressing Rooms, Boys and Senior Dancers: Star Dressing Rooms, Adult Dancers and Staff: Green Room.
Dancers will be able to leave costumes/personal items in the dressing rooms for Dress Rehearsal (Friday) and Performance nights, but not for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday rehearsals. Please make sure to take your items with you each night OR make sure costumes are hung/folded neatly and everything is nice and organized
It is our duty together to represent SSOD positively. Please help CLEAN UP after your child when you pick them up so the dressing area is clean for the next show and is clean after the final performance.
Parent Volunteers for Showtime & Dress Rehearsal:
If you’re interested in helping backstage, chaperoning, selling flowers and SSOD merchandise, or ushering, our volunteer sign-up will open on April 7th. All backstage helpers, chaperones, and sales people will receive one comp ticket and ushers and those selling SSOD merchandise and flowers will be able to watch the show for free while they are working. Thanks in advance for your help!
Length of Show:
The show will be approximately 2 hours long. There will be a 15-minute intermission where refreshments and dancer gifts will be sold! We will have clothing and flowers on sale in the lobby area of the auditorium.
Tickets:
Tickets are $11 for youth and $16 for adults and can only be purchased at the MTU Ticket office or online (link not yet available). We CANNOT charge tickets to your SSOD dance account and are NOT able to reserve or set aside tickets. Be sure to get yours early!
Videotaping/Photography:
Videotaping of the spring dance recitals is prohibited. Both performances will be livestreamed and a digital copy of the professional recording will be available to purchase from SSOD for $5. Red Jacket Media will be available to put that onto a DVD if you would like a hard copy.
Photography is permitted during the show, however, for the safety of the dancers, all flash photography is strictly prohibited.
Courtesy Note:
Please be aware that there will be no entrance/exit opportunities into/out of the backstage/dressing room area while dancers are performing on stage. It is very distracting having people enter and exit the theater while students are performing. Please inform your friends and family as a courtesy to the dancers and fellow patrons of the theater.
Thank You!
We are thrilled for this year’s spring show! Thank you, families, friends and dancers of SSOD for helping to make this the best show yet!
